Two staples of Island Reggae music have collaborated on the new single, “Mama Roots”, and it’s available for FREE.
The Hawaiian Islands have recently produced some of the most fruitful and prominent acts in the reggae genre. Since forming as a band in 2009, The Green, has rapidly rose to the top of the reggae charts, earning iTunes Best Reggae Album of the Year (2010), as well as the title of Best Local Reggae Band in Hawai’i (2014 & 2015-Honolulu Pulse). Oddly enough, The Green didn’t even release a new album in each of those award winning campaigns.
As 2016 continues to breeze by, The Green have released three new singles in the first five months of the year. The Green kicked off their year, releasing “Roots” on January 8th, followed by “Promised Land” a Dennis Brown cover song for a VP Records compilation, We Remember Dennis Brown. Now, The Green has released their latest single, “Mama Roots”, featuring J Boog, just before the two link up for a nationwide summer tour with Rebelution.
The Green and J Boog are more than familiar with each other, joining together on The Collision Tour in 2014. However, this is the first collaboration between the two on either of their respective songs or albums. J Boog and Caleb Keolanui of The Green were recently featured on a remix of “More Love” by Rebelution.
For The Green, collaborations are not too common on their three previous studio albums. With over 50-songs spread across their catalog, only two prior collaborations have been recorded and released, “Come In”, featuring Jacob Hemphill of SOJA and “How Does It Feel”, featuring Kimie.
