Slightly Stoopid & SOJA: Summer Tour

Two of the top reggae bands that call the United States home will be touring together this summer.

Slightly Stoopid, from Ocean Beach, California and SOJA, from Arlington, Virginia will be teaming up for the ultimate summer tour in 2016. The heavyweight reggae duo will come together for the Return of the Red Eye Summer 2016 Tour, a play off of the 1983 Star Wars film, Return of the Jedi.

tumblr_o2pyp369LK1r6oeslo1_500Slightly Stoopid is renowned for their outdoor BBQ, pool party-esque summer tours, hosted at America’s finest outdoor amphitheaters from coast to coast. In recent years, the California grown band has hosted tours with the Dirty Heads, Stick Figure and The Expendables on the Everything Is Awesome Tour in 2015, the Summer Sessions Tour in 2014, featuring Stephen Marley, Cypress Hill, NOFX and G. Love and the Special Sauce, and the Kickin’ Up Dust Tour in 2013, alongside Tribal Seeds, The Grouch and Eligh and The Budos Band.

Although SOJA and Slightly Stoopid play different styles of music, compared to traditional reggae, while also hailing from different coasts, the bands are fairly familiar with one another. Back in 2012, Slightly Stoopid and SOJA toured together on the 311 Unity Tour, and just this past December, Slightly Stoopid hosted their 2nd annual Closer to the Sun Festival in Mexico, which SOJA performed multiple sets over the weekend’s festivities.

This summer’s Return of the Red Eye Tour will feature a wide range of sounds on the musical chart. Slightly Stoopid plays their fair share of reggae, rock, punk, hip-hop, blues and punk, while SOJA sticks with their roots-rock-reggae style. For the supporting acts on the summer tour, select dates will feature Fortunate Youth, Zion I, and The Grouch and Eligh.

After just a few minutes of the tour announcement, fans flooded the respective bands’ social media accounts wondering which cities will be featured on the summer tour. Without question there is an incredibly high demand for both headlining acts. When you put two of the premier reggae bands in the United States on the same nationwide tour, there is a feeling of complete euphoria that comes over each band’s fan base and reggae fans alike. What could possibly be better than that?

Slightly Stoopid and SOJA, together, on the Return of the Red Eye Tour, coming to a city near you from June 15-August 28, 2016. Some of the notable tour stops include the Stone Pony Summer Stage in New Jersey, St. Augustine Amphitheatre and River Front Amphitheater in Florida, Avila Beach Resort in San Louis Obispo, CA, Mandalay Bay Beach in Las Vegas, and back-to-back-to-back dates in Berkeley, Irvine and Santa Barbara at The Greek Theatre, Irvine Meadows and Santa Barbara Bowl in California.
