One of the more recognizable voices in Hawaiian reggae will take his solo show on the road this spring.
Peni Dean, the longtime singer and known as “the voice of Natural Vibrations“, will be returning to the mainland United States for a string of tour dates in May. Peni has been around the reggae music circuit, both locally in Hawai’i and abroad, for over 20 years. With that time frame, the singer has experienced the trials and tribulations of being a full-time musician and full-time family member.
Natural Vibrations, started in 1993, has been one of the most popular bands in the Hawaiian music scene. Natural Vibrations received a multitude of honors at the Hawai’i Music Awards and earned three Na Hoku Hanohano Awards (Hawaii’s version of the Grammys). The hit songs that Peni Dean sang for “Natty Vibes” are numerous.
However, one major absence for Natural Vibrations has been vocalist, Peni Dean. The last performance for Natural Vibrations and Peni sharing the stage as lead singer occurred in 2014 in Honolulu, Hawai’i. Since then, Peni Dean has started his own band, performing both original songs and hit songs from his Natural Vibrations catalogue, including “Put A Little Love”, “Put Some Time”, “Shawty”, “Hot Like Fire”, “One On One”, and many more.
Peni Dean began touring on the mainland in the summer of 2015, as the supporting act for Hawaiian based roots-reggae band, Maoli. Now, Peni Dean will once again return to the continental 48-states, beginning on May 18th.
Peni Dean and his full band, consisting of Kayton Macariola (Percussions/Vocals), Bredan Torres-Keohokapu (Guitar/Vocals), Branden Rente (Keyboards/Vocals), Nick Raymond (Bass) and Harry Kawaihalau (Drums), will be touring as special guests in support of Fortunate Youth on the road to the 7th annual California Roots
Music and Arts Festival.
Tour stops will include Bakersfield, Solona Beach, Indio, Los Angeles, Ventura, San Louis Obispo and Monterey at Cali Roots.
