Back in the late 1960s, Jimmy Cliff combined reggae, soul, ska and uplifting lyrics to reach across all continents. The hope was to change the world, one song at a time. The legendary songwriter, Bob Dylan called Cliff’s song “Vietnam”, the best protest song he had ever heard. 
Over forty-years since Jimmy Cliff first sang “Wonderful World, Beautiful People”, we live in a world that, although it has borders, it is limitless. People can travel anywhere, see anything, experience every feeling that ever existed, but still are not completely satisfied. We live in a world that recognizes all religions and beliefs and in which any person can choose his or her religion. People can worship any god, can praise the energy of nature that inspire them without feeling threatened or scared. Still, people try to take that away from the human race.
We are all one human race. Race has come to symbolize the division of humanity into segments, divisions that often lead to conflicts, many of which we see escalate into death and war. Perhaps, it is time to finally take Jimmy Cliff’s lyrics to heart.
