Tribute to the Reggae Legends Festival

One of the longest running reggae festivals in the United States has returned for their 35th edition.

Thirty-five years ago, Makeda started the Tribute to the Reggae Legends Festival, and the festival has progressed to be one of the elite reggae festivals in the United States. With the lineup compiled for 2016, that recognition will continue on into the future.

On February 13-15, President’s Day weekend, the Tribute to the Reggae Legends Festival will feature performances by Mykal Rose, King Yellowman, Ken Boothe, Daddy U Roy, Sister Nancy, Sister Carol, Frankie Paul, The Congos, Pablo Moses, Willie Williams, The Wailing Souls, Edi Fitzroy, The Meditations, Michael Palmer, The Itals, Hempress Sativa, Roots Radics, Kush, Layne 7 Seal Dub and more.

In honor of Black History month and in celebration of Bob Marley’s earthstrong day, the Tribute to the Reggae Legends will feature three-days and various venues for the festival in 2016.

Day number one will feature a Tribute to Women in Reggae with Sister Nancy and Sister Carol, among others. Day number two will highlight Reggae Lovers Rock on Valentine’s Day with performances by Frankie Paul and The Wailing Souls, along with The Congos, Willie Williams and Michael Palmer.

The finale of the three-day holiday weekend, Roots Bash, will feature performances by Mykal Rose, Yellowman, Daddy U Roy, Ken Boothe, Pablo Moses and more.

The venues to host this year’s Tribute to the Reggae Legends Festival will be The Observatory-North Park Theatre and Makeda’s own World Beat Center in San Diego’s Balboa Park.

Tickets for Day 1 and Day 2 are $35, while the President’s Day Roots Bash are available for $55.
