As the most prominent reggae festival in the United States,California Roots is a destination for A-List performers and music lovers alike.
Back and better than ever, the 7th annual edition of the California Roots Music and Arts Festival is shaping up to be the best festival to date for the Monterey Fairgrounds attendees. With the first artist announcement for the Memorial Day weekend festival coming nearly 7 months before fairground gates open for business, a month later the second piece to the 2016 festival has been revealed.
For the first time in the festival’s history, Stephen “Ragga” Marley will bless the stage in northern California, joining fellow headliner Slightly Stoopid, returning to the California Roots Festival for the third time in four years, along with Tarrus Riley, Stick Figure, Atmosphere, The Expanders, Tomorrows Bad Seeds, Josh Heinrichs, Peni Dean, Seedless, Sticky Fingers, and more.
The California Roots Festival’s 1st edition seven years ago began with mostly local California-based reggae bands, along with one Hawaiian-based roots-reggae band, Ooklah the Moc. Now, the festival features plenty of international talent with artists hailing from Jamaica, Australia, New Zealand, Chile and the United Kingdom, while still staying true to their roots with local California bands featured.
The festival has truly become a must perform event for the biggest and brightest performers in the reggae genre. Throughout the festival’s duration, the days have increased from one to three sun up to sun down, all-day performances, as well as increased attendance figures to over 25,000 patrons for the three-day event in Monterey, CA.
Early Bird tickets are on sale for the three-day festival with one final artist announcement set for early 2016.
The 7th annual California Roots Music and Arts Festival will take place on May 27-29, 2016 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds.
