The Wailers to Perform in India

The legendary Wailers band is scheduled to perform in India for the first time this week, marking a historic moment for the reggae movement.

Led by iconic bass player Aston “Family Man” Barrett, they are headliners for Saturday’s NH7 Weekender Festival at RBDSA Sports Complex in the city of Shillong, also known as11240769_10153702214149809_7926406747319325411_n India’s rock capital. During the trip, The Wailers will also perform in the city of Kolkata on November 1st.

“This is our first time to India and we are longing to explore beautiful Shillong. We expect exposure to the ancient culture and all that it has to offer,” Barrett told local papers in India.

Barrett is the only original member of the line-up that toured with Bob Marley during the reggae ambassador’s career. His son Aston Jr. joins the rhythm section on drums, along with Dwayne Anglin (lead vocalist), Cegee Victory (backing vocals), Audley Chisholm (lead guitarist), Melvin Glover (rhythm guitar) and keyboardist Chaka Taylor complete the roster of current members of the Wailers.

Following the groundbreaking performances in India, the Wailers will continue to tour through the new year, as the calendar changes to 2016. Some of the countries fans can find the Wailers playing Marley’s classic hits will be England, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, as well as a lengthy winter tour throughout the United States.
